  • Following in the footsteps of Arena building their business they start building and constructing the Millennium Dome. The building was designed by Richard Rogers a Partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. The building structure was engineered by Buro Happold,
  • Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin. In 2018 Google’s net worth was $96.3 billion. Shame we didn’t go down the technology route!
  • Titanic won 11 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Although Kate Winslet didn’t scoop an award on this occasion, she did win Best Actress in 2008 for acting in The Reader.
  • Bill Clinton, 42nd President of the United States, was impeached on December 19, 1998, on two charges: one of perjury and one of obstruction of justice. The charges stemmed from a sexual harassment lawsuit filed against him.
  • The first Apple iMac G3 was released in August 1998.
  • Harrison Ford was named sexist man alive and he was aged 55.
  • There’s something about Mary and The Truman show hit the screens.
  • Pretty much everyone had a Nokia 6120.
  • Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston were still a thing, and you might have been considering having “The Rachel” hair style.
  • People were still visiting Blockbuster. VHS tapes were still the most cost-effective and popular way to watch movies.
  • Britney released her debut single and album “Baby one more time”. The first of six Number 1s for Britney, …Baby One More Time passed a million sales in just five weeks.
  • And NSYNC also came on the scene with “I want you back”.
  • Frank Sinatra passed away on the 14th May 1998 aged 82. One of his well know quotes was, “I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.”
  • Furbies were released. Over 40 million Furbies were sold during the three years of its original production, with 1.8 million sold in 1998.
  • Imaani represented the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest coming 2nd with 166 points, performing “Where are you”.
  • The Real IRA announces a ceasefire.
  • The Union Jack dress worn by the Spice Girl Geri Halliwell is sold at Sotheby's for £41,320
  • George who works in our office was 3 years old the day we opened our door. (Wow we do feel old.)
  • A four-bed detached house in Letchworth could be snapped up for c. £150,000.00.
