For seven months, workers across the globe have had to deal with the ever-shifting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the first time in modern history, the very basis of working life has been forced to change and evolve to not only ensure the safety of workers, but also to stem the spread of a virus that has killed thousands.
Millions of workers have been furloughed, or made redundant whilst hundreds of thousands have had to move to remote working indefinitely. Government advice and legislation continues to change depending on the prevalence of COVID in specific areas, causing mass upheaval and confusion.
It’s been a tough time. Workers are struggling mentally and physically with the toll of the virus and businesses are struggling due to changing consumer habits and economic uncertainty. But it isn’t over yet. In fact, the Government’s own predictions put at least the first half of 2021 in much the same situation as we find ourselves in now – and really, we have little idea of what is yet to come.
